Dermaplaning in Pittsburgh

Demaplaning is a method of exfoliation that consists of using a specialized instrument to gently remove the surface layer of dead skin cells and vellus hair (commonly known as "peach fuzz") in order to reveal a smoother, more radiant appearance. Dermaplaning increases cellular turnover, smoothes, tones, tightens and softens skin and provides immediate results.

dermaplane faq's

What is a treatment like? Is there any downtime?
After a deep cleansing and toning of your skin, your esthetician will gently scrape away the surface layer of dirt, oil, dead skin cells and vellus hair with a specialized instrument. Depending on your service choice, a treatment may be performed after your dermaplaning procedure. Your service will end with an application of UV protection as skin will be sensitive to sun exposure after the treatment. Following the treatment, skin instantly has a healthier glow and feels amazingly soft. Skin care products are better able to penetrate into the skin allowing them to work more efficiently and makeup application is smoother.
Does it hurt? Will it cut me?
Dermaplaning non-invasive and entirely painless. It is effective by performing a gentle scraping motion across the skin’s surface. There are risks of cuts on the skin, however they are small and very minor ("nicks") as the pressure used for Dermaplaning cannot cause a deep cut. These nicks and heal within 24-48 hours.
Will my hair grow back thicker or darker?
No, it is physiologically impossible for dermaplaning to alter your natural hair growth. The vellus hair will grow back slowly, usually in 2-4 weeks. Dermaplaning, waxing, tweezing or any other form of hair removal cannot alter the type of hair growth in any given area.
How often can I receive this treatment?
Dermaplaning can be performed every 3 to 4 weeks. Each time you get dermaplaned, we are able to remove about 2-3 weeks worth of dead skin cells.
Can it be done with a chemical peel?
Yes! Dermaplaning can be added on to another skin care service. Dermaplaning is an excellent way to prepare the skin for a chemical peel. The peel is able to penetrate deeper into the dermis resulting in a more effective treatment. The conjunction of dermaplaning and a chemical peel leaves the skin refreshed and rejuvenated. Together they promote new skin growth and target problems such as aging, sun spots and environmental damage.
Who should not receive this treatment?
You should not receive dermaplaning if you have active acne outbreaks or cold sores.
